August 18, 2025: Our Tasting Room’s 5th Anniversary
Five Years of Kalasi Cellars: Celebrating a Fredericksburg Winery Milestone
This past weekend, Kalasi Cellars celebrated five years since opening our Fredericksburg winery tasting room in the heart of the Texas Hill Country wine trail. Anniversaries are always a great time to reflect, and as we look back, it’s clear that both our winery and the Texas wine industry have seen incredible growth.
We’ve pulled together some of the biggest changes over the last five years—across Wine Quality & Exposure, Experiences, Travel, and Destination Development—and what they mean for wine lovers planning a visit to Fredericksburg.
Wine Quality & Exposure
The quality of Texas wine has been on a steady rise, and this past year brought more recognition than ever. Esteemed critics Jonathan Cristaldi (Cristaldi & Co.) and Jim Gordon (James Suckling) visited the Texas Hill Country, tasting hundreds of wines and helping establish benchmark scores that now stand alongside regions like Napa and Paso Robles.
Meanwhile, Wine Folly added the Texas Hill Country to its regional guides, and Wine Enthusiast began regularly featuring Fredericksburg wineries. This growing national attention is shining a spotlight on the region and drawing more visitors to explore Texas wineries in person.
For Kalasi Cellars, 2022 marked a milestone vintage. We became the first Texas winery to release optically sorted estate-grown wines, producing astonishing quality that earned high marks from critics. Our 2022 Cabernet Franc stood out at CabFranc-a-Palooza in California, where many guests named it their favorite among 90+ wines. If you’re curious to taste what’s possible in Texas estate wine, visit our tasting room and experience these wines firsthand.
Winery & Tasting Room Experiences
Today’s visitors want more than a quick pour—they’re looking for unique Texas wine tasting experiences. To meet that demand, we now offer a weekly Winery Tour & Tasting in Fredericksburg, where guests explore our production facilities, see our estate winemaking process, and enjoy a curated tasting. From growing grapes on our vineyard to hand-bottling each vintage, we love sharing the full journey with our guests.
Beyond the tasting room, we’ve poured at events like the Fredericksburg Farmers Market, Texas Hill Country Wineries Roadshow in Austin, and CabFranc-a-Palooza in California, plus community festivals in Johnson City, San Antonio, and beyond. Coming up, we’ll be at the West Texas Wine Festival in Abilene, Fredericksburg Food & Wine Festival, and Rosé to Rebuild in Horseshoe Bay. These events help spread the word about Texas wine while also supporting causes we care about.
If you’re planning your Hill Country wine trip, check out our Winery Tour & Tasting experience and see why visitors call Kalasi one of the best wineries in Fredericksburg TX for both wine quality and hospitality.
Inspiration From Wine Country Travels
This past year, we explored several top wine regions—Napa Valley, Paso Robles, Livermore Valley, the Finger Lakes, and Niagara-on-the-Lake. Each offered inspiration for how we can continue to elevate the Kalasi Cellars tasting experience. Seeing how other regions approach hospitality, events, and wine styles gives us fresh ideas to bring back home to Texas wine country.
Destination Development in Fredericksburg
The future looks bright for Fredericksburg wineries and the Hill Country as a whole. Two luxury resorts are underway: the Waldorf Astoria Fredericksburg, located directly across the street from Kalasi Cellars, and The Meuse, already under development on the other side of town. Both will bring elevated accommodations and dining to the area, cementing Fredericksburg as a premier U.S. wine destination.
