Kalasi Cellars Brings Optical Grape Sorting to Texas

Enabling a Colossal Leap in Wine Quality to Rival Best in the World

Pellenc Optical Grape Sorter at Kalasi Cellars

FREDERICKSBURG, Texas (August 9, 2022) – Kalasi Cellars, a boutique, 100% estate-grown winery in the Texas Hill Country, has received delivery of its Pellenc Selectiv’ Process Vision 3 optical sorter, marking the first time this world-class technology has made its way to a Texas winery.

This equipment enables Kalasi Cellars to solely use the perfect red grapes for winemaking. It does this by scanning all harvested material and empowering the winemaker to choose the desired ripeness (color), shape (no raisins), and size (no shot berries) of grapes to be used for winemaking. All material other than grapes (MOG) can also be removed. The speed and level of control this equipment provides is unprecedented in Texas winemaking and will play a central role in Kalasi Cellars continuing to raise the bar for Texas wine quality.

Kalasi Cellars Engages Dan and Spencer Gatlin for Winemaking Consultation

Team to Support Kalasi Cellars’s Mission to Create World-Class Texas Wine

FREDERICKSBURG, Texas (October 3, 2021) – Kalasi Cellars, a growing boutique winery in the Texas Hill Country, is pleased to announce its winemaking collaboration with Dan and Spencer Gatlin from Inwood Estates. Over the past 45 years, Dan has created some of the highest quality wines in Texas and has helped show the world the potential of Texas wines. Through the years he’s mentored his son, Spencer, into an excellent winemaker as well. They have made fantastic wines not just through excellent work in the cellar, but also through meticulous grape growing. Nikhila Narra Davis of Kalasi Cellars began working with Dan and Spencer Gatlin in 2017 when they first started buying fruit from Kalasi Cellars’ vineyard, Narra Vineyards, for Inwood Estates.

Over the years, Dan and Spencer have become intimately familiar with the vision that Greg and Nikhila have for Kalasi Cellars. To help Kalasi Cellars achieve its mission of creating world-class wines made from 100% Texas fruit, Dan and Spencer will provide winemaking mentorship to Greg and Nikhila Narra Davis. It is the first mentorship of its kind that Dan and Spencer have undertaken and is a sign of the potential they see in Kalasi Cellars and the Texas wine industry.

The timing of this mentorship coincides with the completion of Kalasi Cellars’ wine making facility in Fredericksburg, Texas. All Kalasi Cellars wine is now produced in-house, making it one of the few wineries in Texas growing 100% of their own fruit in Texas (Narra Vineyards) and processing all fruit for the winery in house, setting it up to be a leader in the Texas wine industry for years to come.
