Tasting Room Reviews
On top of that, the wine was incredible - so much so that I became a member of the wine club which would be the first time ever out of several years of visiting wineries from the west coast to the south. My favorite by far was the Sagratino optically sorted variation (which is a neat concept)
5/5 would recommend to anyone who enjoys wine from white to red!
I can't say I'm an expert on wine, but I do know what I like. In looking for places to visit, I stumbled across Kalasi Cellars and the tag on their website drew me in: "Where Tradition Meets Innovation with a Touch of India". Why wouldn't I give that a try?
There's plenty of parking on site, and the tasting rooms are a short drive from the Old Downtown of Fredericksburg. I was a little hesitant going in because we were the only people there on a grayish Tuesday afternoon... might it feel awkward? How wrong I was!
We were given a great greeting from Dana, who was working tastings that day, and sat and enjoyed and learned about Kalasi's wine. The different wines we enjoyed were all great, and Dana's expertise and accessibility helped us to understand not just what we were drinking but why it made sense. She was the best salesperson ever: because she was zero pressure, I absolutely wanted to buy some wine, and I did. It's good enough that when time permits, I think I'll join their membership program.
My partner and I felt very welcome indeed - more like old friends than a customer, and I can't recommend this highly enough.
I also thoroughly enjoyed having Kalasi staff member, Laura, walk us through the Kalasi story and share her vast knowledge and history of the wines we tasted. Her joy was contagious and it made the experience all the better.
My friend and I did the wine/chocolate pairing and it was so surprising to see how the two complimented each other. It was special to get the Indian spices in the chocolate and then discover how they worked so well with the pairings. We were pleasantly surprised how their white wine - Malvasia Bianca pair so beautifully with the milk chocolate/saffron. (By the way - their Tikka Masala Naan Pizza was super tasty!)
Finally, I am glad to see another female winemaker, who is also a well-known grape grower, in the Texas Hill Country! So glad I went to Kalasi and I will be going back. If you are interested in serious Texas wine - you need to schedule a tasting and just try it for yourself.
The only negative I note is that both the owners walked through the tasting room while we were there (We recognized them from their photos,), and neither stopped to talk to any of the guests (6 total). We visited the winery because we heard them on Shelley Wilfong's podcast, and the fact that she'd studied under Dan Gatlin impressed me. They seemed really personable and interesting. We're members at a number of wineries, and our relationships with the owners and staff are the difference between the memberships we cycle through and the ones we maintain. At our top 2 or 3, the owners are the ones that convinced us to join because we liked them so much.
Again, minor point. We loved the wine (and bought some), and thoroughly enjoyed the tasting experience provided by staff.
But to add to our encounter with this particular worker . One of our party asked if a military discount was offered ( He is a retired Marine) and she said we only offer a discount for active military personnel. With a finger gestures as quotation “”.Is this your policy ? If so I think it needs to said to the public so they can make the decision to patronize. Your winery or not.
I am sorry to go on about this but as a business owner . I think it is important that you know what goes on in your winery.
We will not be returning . With the quality of your wine . We may have considered being part of your wine club. However to have to deal with the likes of her .. no way!
Thank you,
Kelly C
We were blown away. Our experience was by far one of the top two among the 8 vineyards we visited this trip. Greeted by personable and knowledgable staff we delighted in tasting the wines. We actually bought 3 bottles and joined their wine club.
Some of the reds need more time to become fully established but they are worthy of drinking now. We are not Rose vans but it was one of the bottles we bought because of its relatively dry nature for that varietal.
Our advice is GO....ENJOY SOME GREAT WINE
And as for the service, we can’t say enough. The staff, including the owners, are personable and truly want to ensure you have the best experience. We needed a changing table, they got us one. Have friends show up to a members event where they are making food fresh for those who RSVP’d, they flex hard and get your friends a plate of delicious Indian inspired BBQ. Overall this is one of our favorite places in Fredericksburg for many reasons! Cheers to people who truly love wine and people!
Please add a baby changing table to your restroom.
We received a warm welcome and a server that insisted we try our wines before getting a glass. I'm glad I did as my first pick didn't suit me, but the second was right on the money. The charcuterie was delectable and I was impressed by the table service, even though we were outside. We picked up 2 bottles to go and have enjoyed the memories back at home.
We're already planning our next trip to Fredericksburg and Kalasi Cellars will surely be a stop along the way.
Don't forget to check out the llamas out back and the gorgeous palace door in their beautifully designed tasting room.
All of the wines tasted were good. Ended up buying two bottles of the Caménère it was so good.
If you have a Tesla this is one of the few places you can charge. It's very appreciated and the main reason we ended up coming to this location. It doesn't disappoint though.
The facilities are beautifully tucked away in such a way that make them easily accessible, yet you can have a peaceful afternoon sipping as you walk around the land, or sit and enjoy the breeze under one of their beautiful trees!
You can't visit Fredericksburg without visiting Kalasi Cellars! We certainly won't!
Grapes are grown by the family and care is taken from soil to bottle with each wine. A family affair that you can’t get enough of!
I was lucky enough to get away for a weekend recently and was able to get a reservation at Kalasi. Christi took care of our small group. She was wonderful--introduced me to a few new wines and taught me about the different wine varieties. We ended up leaving with multiple bottles and this will definitely be my first stop the next time I'm in Fredericksburg.
Definitely coming back for the experience
EV charging friendly!! , they were life savers and had a Tesla charging location

Kalasi Cellars Brings Optical Grape Sorting to Texas
Enabling a Colossal Leap in Wine Quality to Rival Best in the World
FREDERICKSBURG, Texas (August 9, 2022) – Kalasi Cellars, a boutique, 100% estate-grown winery in the Texas Hill Country, has received delivery of its Pellenc Selectiv’ Process Vision 3 optical sorter, marking the first time this world-class technology has made its way to a Texas winery.
This equipment enables Kalasi Cellars to solely use the perfect red grapes for winemaking. It does this by scanning all harvested material and empowering the winemaker to choose the desired ripeness (color), shape (no raisins), and size (no shot berries) of grapes to be used for winemaking. All material other than grapes (MOG) can also be removed. The speed and level of control this equipment provides is unprecedented in Texas winemaking and will play a central role in Kalasi Cellars continuing to raise the bar for Texas wine quality.

Kalasi Cellars Engages Dan and Spencer Gatlin for Winemaking Consultation
Team to Support Kalasi Cellars’s Mission to Create World-Class Texas Wine
FREDERICKSBURG, Texas (October 3, 2021) – Kalasi Cellars, a growing boutique winery in the Texas Hill Country, is pleased to announce its winemaking collaboration with Dan and Spencer Gatlin from Inwood Estates. Over the past 45 years, Dan has created some of the highest quality wines in Texas and has helped show the world the potential of Texas wines. Through the years he’s mentored his son, Spencer, into an excellent winemaker as well. They have made fantastic wines not just through excellent work in the cellar, but also through meticulous grape growing. Nikhila Narra Davis of Kalasi Cellars began working with Dan and Spencer Gatlin in 2017 when they first started buying fruit from Kalasi Cellars’ vineyard, Narra Vineyards, for Inwood Estates.
Over the years, Dan and Spencer have become intimately familiar with the vision that Greg and Nikhila have for Kalasi Cellars. To help Kalasi Cellars achieve its mission of creating world-class wines made from 100% Texas fruit, Dan and Spencer will provide winemaking mentorship to Greg and Nikhila Narra Davis. It is the first mentorship of its kind that Dan and Spencer have undertaken and is a sign of the potential they see in Kalasi Cellars and the Texas wine industry.
The timing of this mentorship coincides with the completion of Kalasi Cellars’ wine making facility in Fredericksburg, Texas. All Kalasi Cellars wine is now produced in-house, making it one of the few wineries in Texas growing 100% of their own fruit in Texas (Narra Vineyards) and processing all fruit for the winery in house, setting it up to be a leader in the Texas wine industry for years to come.
